Cornerstone Weekly News

Hello, parents!

Spread the word! Cornerstone is having an Open House on January 26 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. This is an excellent time to visit our campus and meet our teachers and staff, as well as hear about our program. Think of at least one person you can tell about the great things that are happening here!

KID FIT will resume this week on Tuesday and Thursday. All previously registered students will continue. If your child would like to enroll, please check with Michelle Ramirez at the front desk to see if there is space available.

Please label all personal items! Lost and Found keeps growing!

Please note that there will be a funeral at FCCC this Thursday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. for HPD Sgt. Jason Leil. They are expecting 900 – 1,000 people, who will begin arriving as early as 9 a.m. Please pay attention to the police officers directing traffic.

We will be hosting a Parent Forum on Monday, Feb 6. Please come and hear about the state of our school and the 2012-2013 school year. You will also have the chance to direct questions to our head of school and board members.

Because of the funeral, Parent Auxiliary will meet in the lobby on Thursday at 8:35 a.m. From there, we will decide where to meet. We would love to see you!

In Cougar basketball sports this week:

Jan. 10  CCA girls vs. Southwest Christian at home at 4 p.m.

Jan. 10 Maroon boys vs. Southwest Christian at home at 5 p.m.

Jan. 12 CCA girls vs. Honor Roll School at home at 4 p.m.

Jan. 12 Gold boys vs. HCYA at home at 5 p.m.

CCA’s Maroon boys team will play in a tournament this weekend at St. Thomas More and Westbury Christian. Come cheer for our Cougars!

From Corey Waters, our campus minister:

One of our children received underwear for Christmas. Boy, was he excited. I could hardly believe how happy he was to receive Buzz and Woody. Today I was reminded that there are little boys and girls in Haiti that would share his excitement just to receive a pair of underwear. Why? Because what we see as a cute gift at Christmas time is a luxury item to them!

At CCA we strive to teach our students to serve and have compassion for others. A wonderful way to express compassion is our outreach to Haiti. Mrs. Tammy McDonald will be going to Haiti soon, and CCA has promised to send her with 1,200 pairs of children’s underwear. Currently we have 459 pairs. Our deadline for collection is January 12 .

Please help us teach your children this valuable lesson. Will you take them to buy underwear for these precious children?

Important dates:

MLK, Jr. Day – Jan. 16, no school

CCA Sunday – January 22

Reenrollment  - January 23

Thank you for all you do!

Something to chew on…

November 9, 2011

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts.”  -  Psalm 139:23

 Inspect What You Expect!

When I was a restaurant manager, we had a simple but profound phrase: “Inspect what you expect!”  If we expected the best from our employees, we needed to do constant inspections of our company and personal standards, our guest relations and most importantly, how we ourselves did our job.

As Christian educators, we need to follow the same simple but profound phrase: “Inspect what you expect!”  If you expect your students to do their very best – are you doing yours? Are you prepared for class each day (physically, mentally and spiritually)? Did you get ample rest? Is your head in the game? Last, but definitely not least, did you spend time with God today?

If we expect our students to have high standards – do we? If we expect our students to be young men and women of character – are we? If we expect our students to honor the Lord in everything they do – how do we measure up? These are tough questions that need a real and personal inventory of the heart!  Psalm 139:23 says “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts.” Be willing to allow God to check what’s in your heart and mind. Be honest and transparent with Him!

 Corey Waters – Campus Minister
