Our board of trustees consists of active members of the community who volunteer their time to promote the growth and development of Cornerstone Christian Academy.
Sean Burnett, is the vice president of marketing for HCA Gulf Coast Division. Burnett is responsible for setting and executing digital and traditional marketing strategy, building and managing the organizational infrastructure for divisional and hospital teams, growing service lines, and identifying and executing business development opportunities, ultimately delivering on HCA's institutional value proposition.
Before joining HCA Gulf Coast Division, Burnett served as vice president of sales, marketing and training at Covia Health, an innovative health care services firm based in Houston and focused on detecting and preventing late-stage breast cancer.
With nearly 20 years of experience in brand management and strategic planning, Burnett has launched comprehensive marketing programs, designed communication initiatives, and impacted global brands such as OSI Restaurant Partners, Inc. (Outback Steakhouse), Yum! Brands (KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut), IKEA, Igloo Products Corp., Rice University and SYSCO Foods, among others.
Sean actively supports community involvement initiatives and generally works to leave a positive legacy for those around him. He sees the value in balancing work with life and purpose. In his personal time, Sean volunteers with the City of Sugar Land, the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, St. Thomas Episcopal School, Cornerstone Christian Academy and First Colony Church of Christ.
Sean lives in Sugar Land with his amazing wife of more than 17 years, Nancy, as well as being blessed with a beautiful daughter, Hannah.
Dr. Don Hooper is president of the Center for Quality Leadership, Inc., an organization committed to assisting school district administrators with the planning required to focus available resources on improving student achievement and administrative leadership and management of school operations. He has over 47 years of experience in public education, serving 33 years as an educator, instructional leader, and district administrator, serving 25 years as superintendent in five school districts ranging in size from 110 students to 60,000 students. He also has experience working with boards of education to formulate school district policy, develop and implement strategic plans, and oversee day-to-day school district administration and operations. Dr. Hooper was named Texas Superintendent of the Year in 1995 and named educator of the Month by Texas School Business Magazine. He was the 2001-02 president of the American Association of School Administrators. He has served as an adjunct professor for the Department of School Administration/Supervision in the University of Houston System, The University of North Texas, and The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Hooper is the Executive Director of School Research Nexus. Additionally, he is serving on two private school boards and two corporate boards. Dr. Hooper and his wife, Sandra, have been active members of First Colony Church of Christ since 1995, where Dr. Hooper currently serves as an Elder and Bible teacher.
Don Bryan, Jr. is a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual. Don joined the firm after graduating from Abilene Christian University, with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing, in 1990. Today he manages a private client practice with a concentration on wealth preservation and transfer, and risk management. Don is a deacon at the Foster Creek campus of First Colony Church of Christ, where he has been a member since 1992. He is a past board member of the Houston Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Southwest Houston Recreational Swim League, and Boy Scout Troop 1331. Don is a former marathon runner, and is active in US masters swimming. He and his wife Jennifer have 4 children, and reside in Richmond, TX.
Brian Myers currently serves as Sales Director for cybersecurity startup, Attivo Networks. Brian has held various sales, channel, and business development roles in technology sales for over 23 years. He attended Stephen F. Austin University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Marketing. Brian and his wife, Sheri, and two children are active members of First Colony Church of Christ. Both children attend Cornerstone Christian Academy, and Sheri is an active volunteer. Brian enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and friends.
Jeff Calvert is the network engineer for Halcon Resources Corp, an oil and gas exploration company, and has 18 years of experience in IT, focusing on network design, implementation, and security. He has worked in startup ventures for the past 15 years, including CyrusOne and AlertLogic. Jeff grew up in Missouri City and has been an active member of First Colony Church of Christ for 30 years. He and his wife, Mia, have two children.
Thom Besso, a graduate of the College of New Jersey, is Founder and President of SolomonSwann International and has over 25 years of recruiting, consulting, and management experience. Before forming SolomonSwann International in 1997, Thom held senior management positions and corporate recruiting positions in the retail and petroleum industries. Thom has experience in the development of recruiting and interviewing models. He has traveled the country as a career development speaker on many of the nation's college campuses. He has served as the chairman and chief advisor of the finance and banking network for National Personnel Association, an international coalition of over 400 elite executive search firms. Thom is highly active in his community. He holds a black belt in Kenpo Karate and volunteers his time to teach and mentor youth in the Houston area. He is also involved in several mission projects where he travels and works in third world countries including Haiti and Honduras.
Mark J. Mize serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Halcon Resources. Mr. Mize served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Petrohawk Energy Corporation from August 2007 until BHP Billiton acquired Petrohawk in August 2011. Mr. Mize served as the Chief Ethics Officer and Insider Trading Compliance Officer for Petrohawk until June 2009. Additionally, he served as Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer and Controller at Petrohawk from July 2005 until August 2007. Mr. Mize first joined Petrohawk in November 2004 as Controller. Prior to working at Petrohawk, Mr. Mize was the Manager of Financial Reporting of Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, a public oil and gas exploration company, from January 2003 to November 2004. He was an Audit Manager with Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP from 1996 to 2002. Mr. Mize has a Bachelor degree in Accounting from the University of Houston and is a Certified Public Accountant. Mark and his wife, Heather, and two children are active members of First Colony Church of Christ. Both children attend Cornerstone Christian Academy, and Heather is an active volunteer.
